AMOUNTS OF TREASURE AND CARGO ON ECHEVERZ'S SHIPS

(The first part contains a dissertation concerning what mayor

may not have happened to the treasure aboard Echeverz' ships and

really is speculative and not germane to the subject of actual

cargoes, therefore it has been omitted. - JH)

1. CAPITANA:

               For the king;

46,095 pesos 6 reales 10 maravedis in gold doubloons.

309 castellanos 7 tomines 6 grains of gold dust.

646 castellanos in two gold bars (Small bars).

               For private persons;

19 gold bars and some doubloons valued at 26,063 pesos.

               2,650 pesos in gold doubloons.

               1,485 pesos in silver reales.

3 gold chains valued at 747 pesos.

               47 serones of cocoa.

               1 1/2 tons of Brazilwood.

2. ALMIRANTA:

No treasure for the King (I thought it had been split )

               between Capitana and Almiranta?-JH)

8 gold bars and some doubloons valued at 8,978 pesos.

               3,150 pesos in gold doubloons.

175 pesos 1 real in coins.

Two chests of small ceramic jugs.

               28 serones of cocoa.

2. (Continued)

               One chest of vanilla.

               Two chests of tortoise shells.

650 cured half hides of leather.

3. NUESTRA SENORA DE LA CONCEPCION:

               No treasure for the King.

               3,000 pesos in gold doubloons.

4 gold bars and some doubloons valued at 5,703 pesos.

               15 serones of cocoa.

               1 chest of vanilla.

               15 3/4 tons of Brazilwood.

               1,440 cured half hides.

4. EL SIERVO:

No treasure for King or Particulars.

               96 tons of Brazilwood.

5. SAN MIGUEL:

No cargo of any kind listed. Echeverz captured this

ship from the English and she may have sailed back empty. (I

think Bob has this mixed up with the schooner Echeverz sold to

Ubilla in Havana. The San Miguel was Echeverz own ship and came

from Spain with him. He sent it on ahead to Havana upon reaching

Puerto Rico and it was loaded with tobacco. It probably had

little treasure on board and is probably about 1 1/2 miles off

Mayport Florida - JH).

6. NUESTRA SENORA DE LA POPA:

The ship was captured by Echeverz from the Dutch and

there is no record of it carrying cargo. (It undoubtedly had

some but, since it was cast upon the shores somewhere near

Echeverz Capitana, they undoubtedly got everything off it – JH).

6. (Continued)

This amounts to the total amount of known registered treasure

placed on the ships of Echeverz' Squadron to be 98,046 pesos,

plus the 955 castellanos in gold dust and two small gold bars.
